JOURNEY - youth exhibition at QUAD

In Autumn term 2023, QUAD's Education team supported 122 Derby/shire based young artists and curators aged 7 - 25 to develop and produce work for a new years exhibition. From January-February 2024 JOURNEY showcased their work in a first-of-its-kind exhibition in QUAD's Main Gallery and Extra Gallery Spaces.

JOURNEY [ˈdʒɝnɪ] n.

noun An act of travelling from one place to another.

verb To travel somewhere.

JOURNEY is a collection of work created by children and young people from QUAD’s Education Programmes. From dedicated projects with artists, school groups and open calls, the work explores the theme of Journey and what Journey means to young people through a myriad of themes and media.

On January 25th 2024, JOURNEY launched at QUAD, with a special launch event held for the schools, artists, staff and other contributors - it was a brilliant showcase event where the meaning of JOURNEY was discussed and contemplated by audience and artists.

In the evening, we held a second launch for our informal learning programme young artists, which was again a really lovely moment to celebrate the incredible young talent included in the exhibition, and reflect on this milestone moment for QUAD's charitable aims, the Education team's established aim to present young work across the building and in the Main Gallery, and the achievements of the young artists in the early stages of their own journeys.

What a privilege and a tremendous achievement to bring this exhibition into fruition, especially as it launched on my last day in post as Education Curator at QUAD.
